We are going to watch one more practice debate to prepare for the debate next class. This time we are going to be debating an age old questions. Which is better Star Wars or Star Trek. Watch the videos and fill out the scorecard.
Use the rest of class time to do your final preparations for the debate. If you haven't already it's a good time to read aloud your opening and closing statements as well as practice answering questions. Below are the time limits you'll have during the debate as well as an online stopwatch to time yourself.
- Part 1 - Three minutes to read your opening statement
- Part 2 - One minute to ask a question and two minutes to respond
- Part 3 - Three minutes to read your closing statement
- You'll have one minute in between each round to make adjustments
Bonus Activity #1: Science Friday Website
Every Friday National Public Radio (NPR) plays a show called Science Friday. Below is the website for that show. It's a great source for science news and current events. There are tons of videos, audio stories, book recommendations and anything you can think of related to science. If you rap up your debate research early give it a look. We'll be using the website throughout the year.
Finish up your debate preparations It's recommend that you practice with a friend, your parents and/or anyone willing to listen to you. The more you talk about your topic the better your debate will go.
