Tips for Testing (5 min)
  1. Small light scratches
  2. If you can scratch it with your fingernail you don't need to do the other tests.
  3. Be specific 
  4. Try and find one characteristic that makes the rock unique.
  5. These rocks are being used by everyone so treat them with care.


Lab: Rock Physical Characteristics Table (Rest of Class)
In preparation for creating a rock identification chart you need to collect a series of physical characteristics from 45 different rock samples. Working with a partner use the template below to collect and organize your data.

    Makerbot Extra Credit

    During the 3rd trimester you can create and object to print using the 3d printer. The only requirements are that it must serve a specific purpose and it most be something you design. It can't be a pre-built design you found online. Follow the steps below to receive extra credit. One of the main goals for this project is to teach yourself a new skill. It's going to take some time to learn how to use the design software.

    Step 1: Design your object using either of the website below.

    Step 2: Fill out the extra credit form.

    Step 3: Email your design to Mr. Korchnak in the proper file format.
